Gardens & Porches
Upon arrival, guests will be greeted with a unique feature common in historic Charleston, South Carolina – plantings on the rise of each step! This is creeping fig which is a climbing vine that accents brick steps beautifully. But this is just the beginning of our extensive and traditional gardens. Years of experimentation, planning, excavating, and nurturing have resulted in beautiful Charlestonian garden “rooms” including water features, tropical plants, shade gardens, unique plants, and several mature Japanese Maples. All are accessible by winding walkways with vine-draped arbors, benches, pergolas, and unsurpassed foliage, fountains, and blooms. Be sure to check out the Japanese Flying Dragon Bitter Orange tree. Carol thoroughly enjoys gardening and has carried many of the plants you see (including her Grandmother’s Irises) from house to house over the years.
Flowertown Bed and Breakfast Gardens have been featured in Good Housekeeping. Private garden tours are available by appointment and Carol has been known to trade and share plants! The beautiful gardens are frequently the site for weddings, showers, parties, family photo sessions, and even a still-life setting for painting clubs.
Our grand southern porches will not disappoint! Whether rocking in a chair, relaxing on a porch swing, or sipping wine, you will soon discover why our guests call it the best “room” in the house. Curl up with a book, play cards, take a nap, and enjoy the serene beauty of our extensive gardens. Guaranteed to take you back in time, discover a time that was gentler and less rushed and enjoy each precious moment.
