Flowertown Bed & Breakfast is located across from the peaceful and charming Azalea Park in the heart of Historic Summerville, just a short 21-mile drive away from Charleston, SC.

We are within walking distance to Hutchinson Square, the center of downtown Summerville, where you can find a plethora of fine dining, antique shops, clothing boutiques, specialty stores, and our very own local theater company, the Flowertown Players, to provide entertainment for the whole family. Area amenities include the many nearby golf courses, beaches, lakes, historic gardens, and plantations, along with access to leisure activities such as horseback riding, canoeing, and tennis.

We also welcome guests to participate in the many greater Charleston area events. These include Charleston Fashion Week, Charleston Food + Wine Festival, Flowertown Festival, Cooper River Bridge Run, Southeastern Wildlife Expositions (SEWE), and Spoleto Festival.

Historic Downtown Summerville
Charming is the perfect description of Historic Downtown Summerville, located a few short blocks from Flowertown Bed & Breakfast. At the center is beautiful Hutchinson Square. With an outdoor stage, shaded park benches, statues, and lovely foliage, the square is a truly relaxing destination, just steps away from retail shops, restaurants, wine bars, and the oldest operating drugstore (with great hot dogs!) in South Carolina. With seasonal celebrations and live local entertainment, there is always something going on downtown!

And you may not know it, but Summerville is considered the birthplace of sweet tea, so be sure to have your photo taken in front of the World’s Largest Sweet Tea Mason Jar, which made the Guinness Book of World Records!

Summerville Farmers Market
Open every Saturday from April through November, the Summerville Farmers Market hosts dozens of vendors from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. There, you can find everything from locally roasted coffee to fresh kettle corn, coastal seafood, unique artwork, Gullah sweetgrass baskets, and of course, fresh fruit, vegetables, and organic meat.

Our favorite booth is the Cookie Chick, with super fresh ingredients and the best almond, molasses, and lemon cookies ever! Splurge like we do and buy a half-dozen. And don’t forget the kettle corn – the Grants purchase a large bag every Saturday!

Sculpture in the South
A surprising number of sculptures are placed throughout Historic Downtown Summerville and the surrounding parks. Azalea Park boasts 12+ acres of beautiful green spaces, hundreds of azalea bushes, crape myrtles, and camelias, quaint bridges over a small stream, tennis courts, gazebos, and a unique collection of beautiful bronze sculptures. Definitely worth a stroll through the park!

Hutchinson Square also features life-size sculptures sharing bench space with you, along with the BIRDS program (Birds in Residence: Downtown Summerville), a major public art initiative created by the Audubon Center at Francis Beidler Forest, Sculpture in the South, and Summerville DREAM in which more than 20 life-size birds overlook the downtown from their perches on rooftops, shop signs, balconies, and so on. See if you can find all 23!

Beaches
Flowertown Bed & Breakfast is only about 35 miles from Charleston’s beautiful barrier islands and beaches. It is the perfect location for a day trip to Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, and Folly Beach.
